Using 6’x6′ Paper Economically

21 January 2021 by Helen Speakman Leave a Comment

I have been trying to use up all my retired 6′ x 6′ DSP (Designer Series Paper) while in Lockdown. It seems the perfect opportunity to go through my paper stash and use all those odd sheets. I keep them in freezer bags in a box, stood up like soldiers in a row. So it is very easy to flick through them all and see what I have. I love, love love this paper and saw a demonstrator explaining how to cut 6′ square paper to get two really nice cards from it.

As you can see the cards are very simple and therefore quick to produce but eye catching and fun at the same time. I simply made a standard card base by cutting an A4 sheet in half at 14.9cm, turning it to score at 10.5cm and burnishing the crease with my bone folder.

I cut the DSP at 9cm (3 1/2″) and trimmed that piece to 13cm. The remaining 6.3cm ( 2 1/2″) piece I also trimmed to 13 cm. Each piece was mounted onto black card stock 1cm bigger in both directions than the DSP – this gives a 0.5cm border all the way round.

Looking at the photograph above you can see how I mounted them onto the card base and used coordinating card stock to mount a suitable sentiment.

You can make these cards from any DSP you may have at home. Simply choose a matching card stock colour for you base and off you go. It is always worth having the Basic Black, Basic White and Very Vanilla card stock in your stash along with matching envelopes.

Waste Not, Want Not!

That’s all there is to it! I used the remaining small strip of DSP to decorate the envelope, as I can not waste anything…. see my picture below of my Tombow glue giving up the very last of it contents before being binned!

I call that using every last drop! Thank heavens for silicone craft mats though… it did get a little messy. But so worth the satisfaction of emptying the tube completely 🙂

An Alternative Version – “Paper Blooms” DSP

This is the same design of card but using one of the FREE Sale-a-bration designer Series Papers called Paper Blooms 155222.
